COVID-19 Outbreak Announcement
January 2, 2024 – The North Shore Family Health Team (NSFHT) and the North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) are reporting that a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit (TBDHU) at the Wilkes Terrace LTC as of January 1, 2024.
A COVID-19 outbreak is declared in a hospital setting when two confirmed positive cases are connected. The individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are currently in self-isolation.
NOSH update
To help contain any further spread of the virus, the Wilkes Terrace Long-Term Care will be limiting visitors to Essential Care Partners until further notice. An Essential Care Partner is defined as someone who provides physical, psychological and/or emotional support, that is deemed important to the patient’s care by the care team in collaboration with the patient.
NOSH will also be implementing outbreak management measures, including increased infection prevention and control practices and surveillance testing for affected individuals.
All patients, along with NOSH staff who work at the Wilkes Terrace Long-Term Care, will be closely monitored for symptoms.
NOSH will be working closely with the TBDHU to manage the outbreak and to protect their patients and staff.
