COVID-19 Outbreak Announcement

January 23, 2023 - The North Shore Family Health Team (NSFHT) and the North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) are pleased to announce that the COVID-19 outbreak at The McCausland Hospital on the Acute and Continuing Complex Care Wing has been officially declared over by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit as of January 23, 2023.

We would like to thank the patients of The McCausland Hospital for their support, trust and patience as we navigated through this outbreak. We would also like to thank the NOSH staff who worked tirelessly to manage the outbreak and keep the spirits up for those in isolation.

To everyone in the community who has sent us well wishes and messages of support over the past weeks, thank you! Your support helped The McCausland staff and patients/residents stay positive throughout these challenging times.

Visitation has now resumed.

McCausland Hospital Outbreak Declared

COVID-19 Outbreak Announcement

January 16, 2023 – The North Shore Family Health Team (NSFHT) and the North of Superior Healthcare Group (NOSH) are reporting that a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared on the Acute and Continuing Complex Care Wing of The McCausland Hospital as of January 16, 2023.

A COVID-19 outbreak is declared in a hospital setting when two confirmed positive cases are connected. The individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are currently in self-isolation.

NOSH update

To help contain any further spread of the virus, The McCausland Hospital Acute and Chronic Care wings will be limiting visitors to 4 Essential Care Partners per patient/resident until further notice. An Essential Care Partner is defined as someone who provides physical, psychological and/or emotional support, that is deemed important to the patient’s care by the care team in collaboration with the patient.

NOSH will also be implementing outbreak management measures, including increased infection prevention and control practices and surveillance testing for affected individuals.

All patients, along with NOSH staff who work at The McCausland Hospital, will be closely monitored for symptoms and will undergo a surveillance swabbing protocol. 

NOSH will be working closely with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to manage the outbreak and to protect their patients and staff.
